Cathays Inclusive Youth Provision (IYP)

Cathays IYP is a youth provision based at Cathays Community Centre and the members are predominantly young people with learning disabilities. Non-disabled young people attend the provision as youth member volunteers, with the role of supporting their disabled peers in planning and accessing the programme of activities on offer.

This programme is made up of a broad range of activities and projects, including art, drama, music, cooking and sport. In addition, trips to places of interest and leisure facilities take place on a daily basis during school holidays. The needs and wishes of members inform the programme and peer led projects are carried out with the guidance and support of qualified youth workers.

The provision takes place during half term school holidays, Easter holidays and for the first four weeks of the school summer holiday, Monday to Friday, 10.00am to 4.00pm. Members aged 11 to 17 years old meet at Cathays Community Centre while those aged 18 to 25 meet at Howardian Youth Centre.

IYP youth club takes place during term times at Cathays Community Centre every Friday from 6.30 pm to 8.45 pm.

In addition to accessing the weekly and holiday provision IYP members take the opportunity to participate in a range of inclusive activities associated with the Community Centre and partner organisations.
