Motability

The Motability Scheme enables those in receipt of the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (with at least 12 months’ award remaining) to lease a car, wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV), powered wheelchair or scooter.

The most popular is the Contract Hire Car Scheme, which provides a brand new car,
insurance, servicing and maintenance, breakdown assistance and many adaptations
for no extra cost. Family members and carers can also drive the car on behalf of the disabled person, so non-drivers can join Motability.

Motability also raises funds and provides financial assistance to those who may otherwise
be unable to afford the cost of larger cars, adaptations, driving lessons and wheelchair
accessible vehicles.
