Specialist Behavioural Team
The Specialist Behavioural Team (SBT) sits withinthe Directorate of Learning Disability Serviceswithin ABMU Health Board, and is part of the Directorate’s Specialist Challenging Behaviour services managed by the Special Projects Team (SPT).
The specific role of the SBT is ‘to provide intensive, evidence-based support to adults with learning disabilities who present with complex behavioural needs. As part of this process, the SBT strive to improve the skills and competencies within mainstream services by training and modelling effective interventions which have been derived from comprehensive assessment’.
The SBT does not work in isolation but in conjunction with the continued input of other disciplines and professions. The SBT works with individuals across a variety of settings, such as, social care, family homes, day services, continuing healthcare and acute assessment and treatment units.
The SBT provides a Directorate wide service with one team across two bases, one in Cardiff
and the other in Swansea, and comprises of a lead and team manager, consultant & clinicalpsychologists, behavioural specialists, assistant behavioural specialists and team administrators.
The route to access the SBT is via Case Manager referral, as the coordinator of the service user’s package of care.
